Branded Creative Executive

In addition to its influencer and media success, 3BD has sold hundreds of thousands of merchandise units and more than 20M books, created cultural events attended by tens of thousands of gamers, musicians, artists and their fans, has been the creative force behind such box office hits as Queen & Slim, and published games celebrated by the gaming community. 3BD is headquartered in a 50,000 square foot state-of-the art office and adjacent studio in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles.

We are looking for a Branded Creative Executive that will ideate and develop creative concepts for both 3BlackDot Owned & Operated (O&O) Content Lifestyle Brands, as well as built-if-sold digital content series that live on talent channels, and which are financed by third party brands. This position will lead creative development, and production of photo and video shoots for those related assets. This is a heavily integrated role that will work cross-functionally on the development, organization and execution of larger projects with external clients and internally with our Content, Talent, Marketing, and Sales team. The Branded Creative Executive will manage projects from start to finish and is responsible for delivering final work to spec on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, drive and oversee the creative and business strategy, voice, implementation, and growth of 3BD’s DTC Content Business, including O&O content lifestyle brands (IP) that 3BlackDot builds from the ground up, as well as built-if-sold content formats that are funded by third party clients through Sales.
  • Oversee all aspects of 3BD’s DTC content development and production process, beginning with ideation and taking that idea all the way from pre-production, through production, post-production and distribution (specifically in ideation and development of digital, social-first multi-platform content) - note 99% of formats will be Non-Scripted.
  • Bring immense passion for gaming culture and trends, and all things pop culture, especially as it pertains to Gen-Z. Bring gaming endemic insights, and knowledge of applicable talent, to the team to incorporate into the development process.
  • Use this endemic knowledge, combined with a data driven approach, to help establish a clear cut strategy for developing Digital Content Lifestyle Brands for Audiences Who Game.
  • Drive the conversation and reasoning around which DTC formats should be internally financed O&O IPs and which should be targeted for external financing/produced for 3rd party brands.
  • Brings a true understanding of Gen-Z audience habits, and a mentality of not just what creative we should be focusing on, but also the why - i.e:
    • This is a great idea, and we should stand it up as an O&O content lifestyle brand because…
    • We want to make this O&O Content Lifestyle Brand, but we can also test it on X Talent Channel, and have that cost paid for by X Third Party Brand, to ensure there’s an audience before we commit to self funding the O&O Content Lifestyle Brand.
  • Brings a Sales-Minded Focus to Creative Content - has the ability to create sub-concepts that can live under a 3BD O&O Content Lifestyle Brand, which can be a complete subcategory of content financed by Third Party Brands. I.e. can create content formats that live under the 3BD O&O Brand GAMING WHILE BLACK, which can be a complete subcategory of Gaming While Black financed by a specific Third Party Brand.
  • While this is a content job, this candidate has the ability to think about content having 360 brand potential.
  • Development: Responsible for managing the DTC Development slate and ensuring a high level of output in ideation so that there is a strong library of project ideas.
    • As part of the DTC Slate, make sure there is constant:
      • Ideation on new show logline ideas
      • Build top selected loglines into One Pagers
      • Build top selected One Pagers into Decks
      • Constantly developing show concepts and innovative formats from scratch while fleshing out current content loglines into realized formats
      • Understanding of 3BD talent (content creators) to pair against format ideas
      • Working with Physical Production Team to make sure Creative Ideas pitched are feasible on a reasonable budget
    • Maintain a well-organized and documented schedule of original development and production for DTC O&O IPs and built-if-sold Formats.
    • Bring an understanding of 3BD’s community driven mission to develop content formats that have potential to be cohesive brand experiences with multiple monetization streams.
  • Pre-Production / Production:
    • When content formats are produced, act as point 3BD executive overseeing production
    • Oversee the creative development and ensure 3BD has all materials needed for shoots
    • Oversee the Digital Producer(s) who is/are running point on specific projects to ensure the creative components of production including but not limited to segment ideas, casting, aesthetic choices are appropriately selected
    • Work with the studio production team, creative producer, and head of development/production to ensure budgeting, scheduling, scaling up/down of crew is handled properly
    • Oversee project schedules, effectively managing timelines from conception through successful launch and beyond, while communicating milestones
  • Post-Production:
    • Make sure the post-production process is efficient and that all editors, story producers, etc. are working to meet creative mandates of the project, and that the final product is delivered on time and on budget
    • Give creative notes on episode cuts
  • Dept Integration:
    • Work closely and diplomatically with all 3BD departments to maximize the potential of DTC Content Formats
    • Reporting to the Head of Development & Production, and working with him as well as the Studio Production Team to ensure a successful creative DTC development slate, as well as ensure budgeting, scheduling, scaling up/down of crew is handled properly when it comes to physical production
    • Living in the Content group, but collaborate with sales, marketing, talent, and other members of the 3BD team to:
      • Ideate content solutions that reflect the POV of 3BD while meeting external brand needs including but not limited to budget, distribution, etc.
      • Build and pitch proposals that solve client objectives through digital and social-first storytelling
      • Dive deep into 3BD insights to build compelling data-driven creative strategies
      • Identify new ways to solve client challenges with creative solutions
      • Innovate and create at the speed of our fast-paced culture
    • SALES
    • Join high volume of sales meetings/calls and act as the defacto liaison between the content and sales groups
      • Content exec but dotted line to sales
    • MARKETING
      • Work closely with multiple members of the marketing team to understand 3BD audience and alignment with overarching brand strategy for any projects to be distributed via owned and operated channels. Team includes Brand Lead, Creative Brand Strategist, Data Insights, and Social Media Strategist. Collaboration should be expected throughout the process from concept through execution.
      • If needed, oversee the creation of content pitch decks for sales to take to market
    • TALENT
      • Work with the talent team to know the strength of the 3BD MCN talent roster
      • Always thinking about how to integrate the roster into DTC content ideas
    • Work with distribution and marketing teams to align on go-to-market needs, main and shoulder content distribution, and analysis of metrics from all built-if-sold DTC content, taking a data driven approach to future content creation.
  • Additional:
    • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the client’s business challenges, their competition, and their industry, and translate that knowledge into actionable opportunities for the agency to grow the account financially.
    • Manage and maintain project and deliverables trackers, including shoot schedules and documentation with high level of detail and accuracy.
    • Contribute creative and technical feedback to Production and Brand team leadership, including active participation in agency-wide ideation sessions

Qualifications

  • 6-9 years of experience as a creative producer, creative strategist, integrated marketer, or project manager at a Branded Agency or Digital Publisher.
  • At least 3 years of content development and production experience, specifically within Digital-first content
  • Self Starter, motivated, has the ability to run with projects without daily supervision
  • Strong foundation in brand strategy, creative thinking, digital content, and social media channels
  • Strong understanding in Millennial and Gen Z audience behaviors, in YouTube talent, and in what defines a successful YouTube content format
  • Strong track record working with third party brands and ideating talent-driven digital-first solutions.
  • Has a true understanding of how third party brands work, and how they buy campaigns
  • Also has an understanding of how to create a brand through content
  • Have immense passion and knowledge for video games, live streaming, esports, and/or gaming influencers/content creators, as well as gaming culture and trends, and all things pop culture, especially as it pertains to Gen-Z.
  • Journalist-worthy writing and editing skills
  • Grade-A presentation chops
